Quebec City at the Summit of the Americas,
April 21, 2001. Troops in full body armor were instructed to fill any gaps
of the 12-foot chain link fence that was erected to provide additional protection
to the leaders of the countries of the Americas. Cuba's Fidel Castro was
not invited.
The fence was called the wall of shame
by protesters, some of whom cut holes, pulled it over and removed sections.
These troops came through a hole and drove protestors out of the area with
tear gas and percussion grenades.
